Aussie Floral Inspiration 11, 12 from Virtual Quilter

I love it!

The background colour is a bit dark in the second design.

Needs to be washed out until it becomes pale grey perhaps.

Desert Flora 13, 14 from Virtual Quilter

The Sturt Desert Pea is an unusual flower, but makes for interesting formal arrangements which only vaguely resemble how the flower is seen in the wild.

I like both of these designs, and am thinking about more ways to arrange the flowers, including a less formal arrangement.

Wattle, Gum and Banksia 1, 2 from Virtual Quilter

Wattle is the national flower of Australia, but it comes in many different varieties other than the Golden Wattle, though most of them have little balls of gold fluff. All of them are varieties of Acacias., species of which thrive in hot dry conditions. The quilt design above includes one of the rebel shapes of Drummonds Wattle.

The second design includes the other two flowers included in the title of this project file … gum tree blossoms in the corners, and banksia flowers.

Wattles and Waratahs 5, 6 from Virtual Quilter

Baltimore to Burke from Virtual Quilter

Happy Australia Day!

This is a long term project file in which I am trying to design a quilt in the style of the Baltimore quilts but with an Australian theme, but I keep adding borders so it is more a medallion quilt. The hardest part is finding background fabrics to use in a large country which has green edges but an interior which features many shades of dirt!

I do like the basket of Australian flora as the centre piece.

Bush Garlands 7 from Virtual Quilter

Not a new project file, but one I found in the deepest, darkest corners of Electric Quilt, with some previously shared.

The flowers are all Australian native flowers, from small to giant plants … the smallest knee high, the largest up to 60 feet tall.

The animals who have slipped in for a look are Aussie too, marsupials about the size of a mouse, who hop like a kangaroo.

Here are some links to some earlier designs in this file, though it appears some have disappeared over time and through computer changes and Electric Quilt updates!
